Our second album, recorded between September 2014 and March 2015 at The Bowerhouse in Maidstone, a beautiful arts and music space run by Sandy, May and Lucy Farrell. After being invited to perform in the space, we fell in love with the natural acoustic and asked if we could bring in sound engineer extraordinaire Matt Tweed to capture the band sound. Matt had been introduced to us via Matthew Watkins and local band Cocos Lovers, and we loved working with him over the course of 18 months to bring this music to life.
The second vital discovery in the formation of this album was the Inky Beard Press, run by Glenn Church in Whitstable. He manages a small hand operated letterpress printer and was able to create our bespoke album booklet cover. We decided that an A5 booklet would be the best way to represent the considerable back-story to this album, providing listeners with the extra pictures and words which would give them a truly 3-dimensional realisation of the Arlet sound.
The booklet contains 2 CD’s; the Big Red Sun album, and a second CD containing some of the music re-imagined for an Arlet trio recorded by Aidan.
